Before leaving the house for school or work we usually wonder what to wear. These thoughts are not only due to our preferences, but most of all what awaits us outside. We pay attention to the air temperature, if sun is shining or precipitation occurs in the form of rain, hail or snow, if to take a jacket and umbrella, wear shorts and sandals, or maybe pants and boots instead. Even these simple daily decisions depend primarily on the weather.

By definition, weather is the temporary state of the atmosphere expressed by certain elements of meteorological and atmospheric phenomena.

Whether we like it or not, weather is extremely important for each of us in every aspect of our lives. On the air temperature, rainfall and wind, depend our lives, the economy, agriculture, transport and so on.

All over the world exists a network of meteorological observatories, at which are carried out observations and measurements of the state of the atmosphere. Collected data, statistics, and knowledge of the laws governing the development of atmospheric processes are used to determine the most likely future weather conditions – weather forecast.

The submitted package aims to acquaint students with the measurements carried out in the meteorological site next to the Polish Polar Station Hornsund on Spitsbergen, and compare them to the current weather in their hometown. The tasks use meteorological databases available online. Additionally, the package contains several mathematical puzzles.
